Teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL)
Open up a world of opportunity with Intensive TEFL Courses (ITC). TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) courses have been designed for anyone who has learnt English at an early age, developing their natural ability to teach others in a fun, interesting and stress-free environment. Our fully accredited intensive weekend courses are structured to provide candidates with the basic skills to teach conversational English without any prior experience or a degree standard education. In just twenty hours our students graduate with a recognized and accredited TEFL certificate which will allow them to teach all over the world on a conversational level. ITC are the first TEFL course provider to have their weekend course accredited by the internationally recognized Accreditat, a division of Training Issues Ltd. Once Part One has been completed candidates have the opportunity to extend their new found skills by enrolling on Part Two, our optional home-study course. On completion of the Part Two section candidates will receive a graded TEFL certificate, and an officially accredited intermediate certificate.
Part one
TEFL Students can change their lives in just one weekend. Our fully accredited practical courses spread over 20 hours, consist of lesson planning, teaching techniques, communication skills and classroom survival. Once the course has been completed our students will have gained an accredited TEFL Certificate, which will allow them to teach conversational English either overseas or in the UK. Weekend course times are 9am to 9pm Saturday and 9am to 5pm Sunday. Venues marked with an asterisk start on Friday evening 6pm to 9pm, Saturday 9am to 7.30pm and Sunday 9am to 2.00pm. This accredited course focuses on giving our candidates all the necessary skills needed to teach their students how to think and function in English. Each student will receive a book pack, which contains an EFL (English as a Foreign Language) course book, literature and job contacts. During the weekend our candidates get to experience lessons first as a TEFL student and are then encouraged to develop their own lesson plans, and eventually teach a class using their own methods. Over the course the students will gain practical knowledge in the classroom with two teaching practices giving first hand knowledge and techniques, which the student will be able to try out for themselves. After their final teaching practice, all candidates will be given a written assessment highlighting their strengths and weaknesses. But the TEFL course doesn't stop there. Advice is given on which publications are available to assist and help students with teaching. There will also be an introduction to Part Two of our accredited TEFL course - Distance Learning. Details of current vacancies and contacts overseas will also be made available to all candidates, with information on newspapers and other media that are advertising any TEFL opportunities. All of our courses are held at top quality hotel and conference facilities in major towns and cities throughout the UK, with easy access by bus, train or car. Unfortunately, accommodation, refreshments and parking costs are not included in the course fee.
Part Two
Once our candidates have completed Part One they are then eligible to enrol in Part Two. This course has been created to deepen and broaden the knowledge of the student whilst in the comfort of their own home or whilst working as a TEFL teacher overseas or in the UK. Working at their own pace, candidates will be introduced to English Grammar and the use of Language. The course also offers practical advice to learners including different methods of problem solving in the classroom. Once this course is completed each candidate will receive both an ITC graded TEFL certificate, and a certificate officially accredited by Accreditat. This accredited home study course has been designed to compliment our Intensive Weekend Course, by extending and developing the candidates new found teaching skills and offering invaluable source material (candidates must have graduated from Part One to enrol in Part Two). Using the teacher training course book supplied, students will complete activities at home or whilst working abroad, and at a pace that suits them. At the course's conclusion all students will have gained a practical experience in the theoretical background of teaching English to foreign speakers. This knowledge will then be used to plan and teach well-structured lessons, integrating course-book work with supplementary activities. You will be asked to complete two assignments during the course. These will be marked by your tutor who will provide constructive written feedback. At the end of the course each student will receive a graded TEFL certificate, with accreditation from ACCREDITAT which proves that a further 80 hours of TEFL tuition has been completed. The course fee covers the cost of all books needed, marking fee, postage and the TEFL Certificate. There is an opportunity to apply for Part Two whilst completing the Intensive Weekend Course. Our Tutors Having spent a lot of their time living and working abroad all of our tutors have gained valuable experience in TEFL teacher training. Their expertise and knowledge guarantee that you will receive the very best TEFL training. Having worked extensively overseas teaching TEFL, all are very experienced in teacher training. Many still teach foreign speakers in UK Universities and Language Schools, using this expertise they are able to give our students the skills necessary to become successful TEFL Teachers. Methods of teaching include the use of body language, facial expressions, games, demonstrations in the planning and giving of lessons, together with rudimentary grammar (this subject is covered in greater detail in Part Two - Distance Learning). All our lessons are presented in a friendly and supportive environment, created to get the very best out of our students.
